TSX Venture Exchange targets smaller Canadian companies, primarily microcaps. Among its listed companies, materials and information technology have the most representation. That said, only one of the 10 most-searched TSXV tickers falls within the technology sector. However, fully half of the 10 most-searched tickers for the exchange are classified within the materials sector

The Graphene Manufacturing Group Ltd. (GMG) was the most-searched ticker, with significantly more views than POET Technologies Inc. (PTK), the second-most-searched ticker on TSXV. GMG focuses on providing clean energy solutions that rely on graphene, a carbon-based material that was first isolated in 2004. The stock saw significant movement during the year, which likely drove much of the attention it received.

HIVE Digital Technologies Ltd. (HIVE) was a little behind PTK in terms of searches. The data center operator and crypto miner powers its operations with green energy. Crypto miners and AI had a remarkable year in 2024, which likely helped to drive searches for the company’s ticker. The company is included as one of TSX Venture 50 2024 companies, a list that includes the exchange’s top performers.

The fourth-most-searched ticker among TSX Venture companies was that ofHPQ Silicon Inc. (HPQ). The company provides sustainably sourced silicon and silicon-related materials to the green energy industry. Silicon is used in a host of industries, but is also crucial in the manufacturing of semiconductors.

Zentek Ltd. (ZEN) claimed the No. 5 spot on the list. The company is an intellectual property development company that focuses on nanomaterials and nanotechnology. Through its research and partnerships, it is involved in a range of products from air filters in HVAC systems to medical diagnostics and fuel additives, though it is classified within the healthcare sector.

National Fuel Gas Company (NFG:US) is an NYSE-listed stock that is involved in all stages of the provision of natural gas to U.S. customers, from exploration to distribution. It falls into the sixth-most-searched slot.

Therma Bright Inc. (THRM), a healthcare company, is close on the heels of NFG:US in terms of its number of searches. THRM’s website describes the company as being involved in the “cosmeceutical” industry, providing treatments primarily in the area of skin care and pain management, as well as COVID-19 diagnostics.

The eighth-most-searched ticker was for Sintana Energy Inc. (SEI), a company involved in exploration and development of natural gas and petroleum assets. Its stock saw significant price appreciation during the year after signing a major deal to acquire part of a Namibian energy firm, expanding its presence in that company. Like HIVE, the company is included in TSX Venture 50 list for 2024.

The final two companies in the top 10 are both from the materials sector: Canada Nickel Company, Inc. (CNC) and Colonial Coal International Corp. (CAD). While the former primarily mines nickel sulphide, a material crucial in the transition to net-zero carbon emissions, the latter produces coking coal, which is needed to make steel.
